Fare North 2024 – Nashachata II in the Canadian Arctic Over 13,000 nautical miles, half a year at sea, 10 stages, 109 participants, and one of the most challenging sailing adventures in the world. This is the essence of the Fare North 2024 expedition, organized by Concept Sailing Association in cooperation with ExperienceTheArctic. Route and goal of the expedition The voyage began in late April 2024 near Gibraltar. The yacht Nashachata II – a 20+ meter steel vessel with an ice class – set out to sail the Canadian part of the North West Passage (Nunavut). The following stages led through Brest, Oban, the Faroe Islands, Iceland, Greenland, and Arctic settlements of Canada. On August 27, the yacht reached Cambridge Bay and, unlike other vessels, turned back towards the Atlantic via Iqaluit, St. John’s, and returned to Spain, completing the loop on November 9. Arctic achievements In 2024, Nashachata II: - became the first yacht in the world to pass through Simpson Strait, - reached Gjoa Haven and sailed through James Ross Strait, - visited Fort Ross twice (July and August), - was one of the few yachts to call at Clyde River. Crew and cooperation A total of 109 sailors from Poland and Canada took part, including members of the Polish-Canadian “Biały Żagiel” Club. Cooperation with other Polish-crewed yachts – Inatiz and Hayat – allowed for the exchange of ice condition reports and delivery of spare parts to Cambridge Bay. Challenges along the way During the leg from the Faroe Islands to Iceland, the yacht suffered a major breakdown of the gearbox and propeller shaft, as well as damage to the headsail. Thanks to quick repair organization by Paweł Stolzmann and financial support from Zbigniew Jałocha, the voyage continued without major delays. Organizers - Concept Sailing Association - supported by ExperienceTheArctic - with navigational consultations by Wojtek Wejer and advice from experienced sailors of previous Polish NWP passages. Reports and photos from the entire voyage are available on our social media. Fare North 2024 proves that Polish sailors can carry out ambitious and pioneering projects in the most challenging waters on Earth.
